G-Commentary: The First Hong Kong Astronaut Lai Ka-ying

2026.06.19 12:00 視頻 周天慧

Hong Kong's first female astronaut, Lai Ka-ying, successfully lifted off, and the entire city was swept up in pride and celebration. Yet, at the very same time, a catastrophic explosion struck America's Blue Origin rocket test — a stark reminder that the global race in aerospace innovation is both high‑risk and of strategic, national significance.

Even so, in such a complex and high‑stakes national endeavor, the country entrusted a critical mission to a daughter born and raised in Hong Kong. Behind this decision lies profound trust and confidence. Hong Kong people should take the initiative to move beyond a mindset of passive reliance, and transform from bystanders into participants, embracing the responsibilities that a Special Administrative Region ought to bear.

In this episode of "G-Commentary: A True Hong Kong Story," host Vanessa Chow presents how Lai Ka-ying's small step is a giant leap for Hong Kong's integration into China.
